Christians - Little Christs?

Christian actually means - little Christ or like Christ.  I’ve heard this preached many times before, that we should look into our lives, check how we live it. If we are not living it “like Christ” then we have a problem. If people with whom we work with everyday do not know that we are Christians, if people cannot distinguish us from the rest of the world - then we have to change.

How can this be? We now know that we are not part of a merit-based religion, but are in the New Covenant because of what Christ has done for us.

The term Christian was first used to describe the Believers in Antioch in Acts 11:26. In Acts 26:28, Herod Agrippa used the term when communicating with Paul. The third (and actually the last) time the term was used was in 1 Peter 4:16, exhorting Believers to bear the sufferings and persecuting that is linked with the name Christian. The term Christian was a term used by non-Believers.

The early Church called themselves ‘Believers” or members of “The Way.” The early church focused on the Finished Work of Jesus Christ. It was a Christ-centered name! They weren’t prioritizing their actions, or what they would do. They prioritized what Christ did for them! As they were fully focused on Christ, non-Believers noticed that they were “like Christ.”

Friends as we walk our walk with Jesus. Let us not worry about how we act, or how we are performing. Let us not be burdened with “acting like Christ.” We BELIEVE that Christ has redeemed us. We follow THE WAY, which is Jesus Christ.  Our behavior will simply be a fruit of looking unto Jesus.

I am not lobbying that we no longer be called Christians, and we use another term. There is no need to look at those things. We need not look at our labels. We need not look at  our reputations. We need not look at our actions. We need not look at our inadequacies. We simply need to look upon Jesus, who endured the cross, despised the shame and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

Jesus said, “this is the work of God, that you BELIEVE in Him who He sent. (John 6:29)”

As Joseph Prince puts it, “Right believing leads to Right living.”
