Funny thing happened to me last Saturday, March 6. In the morning, when I planned to do some chores and buy some sealant for a leaking pipe that we had, I got into my car and I discovered it wouldn’t start. I had intended to bring it to the shop to have the battery checked but now I wouldn’t be able to bring the car at all to the shop. I would have to have a new battery brought at my house.
Long story short, I bought a new car battery and though the car started I found out that there was something wrong with the alternator. I ended up spending over 4 hours in a small “talyer” called EDDIE Electrical and Rewinding Shop. It was hot, and even though I planned to do some chores in the morning, I really wanted to have some fun activities with the kids after finishing up my chores. So spending the time in the “talyer” just shot up my plans.
So there I was , in the heat of the day waiting for the car to be fixed. I soon found myself seated under the shade of a 6 foot ficus tree. Good thing I brought a book.
When I went to Singapore I was able to buy several books and materials from the Rock Christian Bookstore. One of the books that I bought was entitled GRACE: The Power to Change written by Dr. James Richards. This was the book that I brought to EDDIE Electrical and Rewinding Shop. I DEVOURED THE BOOK.
Although I still didn’t finish the book, I finished half way though. I was saying AMEN to myself, sometimes standing up because of excitement.
The book goes further than most books that discuss the Finished Work of Jesus. It actually goes into how Grace will bring about change in your life.
“Jesus is not repulsed by our inability to cope with sins. He knows it is impossible for man to win over sin in his own strength... He knows full well that the grace (ability) of God is the only power that can make man able to win over sin.” (Chapter 6: Grace for Sin - Grace: The Power to Change.)
Isn’t it wonderful that the Lord was able to turn my afternoon around. What would have been a day wasted, under the heat of the sun, spending a good sum of money - turned out to be a great time to grow in the knowledge of what Christ has done for us.
So have your Bible with you, or keep a book ready, or some sermons on your iPod or mp3 player... You’ll never know if your time waiting is actually a great time to grow in the knowledge of the Lord.
And by the way, I was able to spend time with the kids in an indoor playground in the afternoon. No time was lost! What a faithful God.
